Richard Jesse Watson creates art that has been called breathtaking, inspiring, enchanchanting, and echoes the realism of Durer. The artwork for many of his books can take from three to five years to complete. Many are painted in egg tempera (watercolor mixed with an egg yolk) and others in oil or acrylic paints.

Richard studied art at Pasadena City College and Art Center College of Design. He worked as a graphic designer for World Vision International and an artist for Hallmark Cards. He has won awards for many of his books including a Golden Kite Award, Booklist Editor choice and Society of Illustrators Awards.

His paintings are in many galleries and on permanent display in corporate offices, conference centers, libraries, children hospitals, Los Angeles Zoo, Bell Atlantic, Norwest Banks, Childrens Television Workshop, Mill Pond Press, Massa Collection, and private collections such as Mr. & Mrs. Chevy Chase, Dr. & Mrs. Billy Graham, Word Perfect founders the Ashton family as well as many more.
