THE LEGEND OF SAINT CHRISTOPHER Illustrated by Richard Jesse Watson Written by Margaret Hodges $18.00 signed hardcover $25.00 signed 1st Edition hardcover A powerful yet simple tale first written by monastery schoolboys in the thirteenth century. Offero the burden bearer sets off to serve the greatest king in the world. But the most powerful king in the land make the sign of a cross because he fears the devil. "You must not be the most powerful king in the land if you fear the devil, so I will seek him out to serve." So Offero sets off to serve the devil who must be more powerful. But the dark knight flees at the sight of a cross. "You must not be the most powerful king in the land if you fear Christ, so I will seek him out to serve." Offero is told to assist travelers accross the river, and he may be visited by Christ. A small child showed up one day and wanted to cross. As he carried him, the child became heavier and heavier. "You carried the weight of the world on your shoulders as I have the whole world in my hand. You will no longer be called Offero, the burden bearer, but you will be called Christopher, the Christ- bearer ". Forever more he as known as the patron saint of travelers. Richard Jesse Watson’s paintings for this book took almost 4 years to complete and are spectacular. He also doodles in most of the books, which makes them even more special. A must for any Catholics or anyone named Christopher. Ages 4 - 8 (32 pages) |
